Craniosacral Therapy

How Does Craniosacral Therapy Work?

Using gentle touch, Craniosacral Therapy allows for the detection of disturbances within the natural rhythms and movements of the body. In bringing focus and attention to these areas, the body’s own natural healing ability is activated to begin the process of restoring wellbeing.

How Long is a Treatment?

A first session is usually one hour for adults and 45-60 minutes for children. This also includes time to take a case history. Please see my Offers page for details on all the options we can discuss.

How Many Sessions are Recommended?

It really depends upon the nature of your wellbeing and your responsiveness to the treatment. We can discuss your needs before your first session. Most people need to have more than just one or two sessions, but I will never ask you to have any more sessions than necessary.

What Happens in a Session?

In the very first session, we will sit and chat for 10-15 mins as I take some information and medical history from you. After, you lie-down on a massage table. Except for your shoes, you remain fully-clothed. I will then invite you to engage in some relaxation techniques centred around breathing. You are then free to relax for the rest of the session with your eyes closed, as I make different points of gentle, non-invasive contact with my hands on your body. These are often centred on the skull, the heart centre, solar plexus, hips, sacrum, arms, hands, legs and feet. During the treatment, I can explain what I am about to do and what I am detecting, if you wish, or remain silent. You can also explain what is arising for you in your system. If you feel uncomfortable at any point, you can say and we can make an adjustment, pause or stop the session. You are in complete control of what happens.

Is the Manipulation of Joints or Limbs Involved?

No, Craniosacral Therapy does not involve joint manipulation of any kind. However, it may sometimes involve the careful movement and articulation of the legs, arms, shoulders or neck in preparation for fascial unwinding.

How Will I Feel After Treatment?

Initially, you may experience a sense of something having been unwound or released, or feel restful, calm and at peace. You might feel as if you have been on a dreamlike journey where significant things were revealed or resolved. You might experience old memories or feelings, or feel a greater sense of connection with self. It is also possible that you won’t feel anything immediately, finding instead that changes are integrated over the days following a session. It’s advisable to take good self-care immediately after treatment, allowing for quiet relaxation and staying hydrated.

How Does Holistic Coaching Work?

Holistic Coaching supports you in identifying solutions to challenges in your life. It does this by looking at you as a whole person, rather than just focussing on a single problem. Just as Craniosacral Therapy recognises that a problem in one area of your body could be the result of other seemingly separate physical issues, emotional challenges or past traumas, Holistic Coaching understands that the cause of a difficulty in one area of your life can be the result of issues in others. For this reason, Holistic Therapy explores the interconnections between mental health, physical health, emotions, relationships, your values and life purpose. It helps you understand how different parts of your life influence each other - creating lasting change in your wider life, rather than simply offering a single solution to a single problem.

How Long is a Coaching Session?

A first session is usually one hour long. Please see my Offers page for details on all the options we can discuss.

How Many Sessions are Recommended?

It really depends upon the nature of what needs to explored. However, most people benefit from 4-6 sessions. We can discuss your needs before the first session. I will never ask you to have any more sessions than necessary.

What Happens in a Session?

We will meet either in person or online via video-call. We will begin by engaging in a calming, relaxation technique (one that you can also take away and use in your everyday life). We will then talk in detail about what is present for you in your life. I will listen carefully, asking certain questions to understand your situation fully, and support you in seeing and reflecting upon your life differently. I will also ask questions to enable you to discover your own solutions to your challenges. From here, you will make an achievable step-by-step plan of action towards your goals. We will agree on what steps you will take before the next session and then review these when we next meet.

How Will I Feel After a Session?

After a session, you may experience a sense of relief, realisation, focus and direction, having understood yourself, your life and your needs with greater clarity. Over a number of sessions, you can grow in self-awareness and confidence, and directly experience the effects of positive change. Over time, many people gain improved motivation, stronger decision-making, healthier boundaries and a greater sense of alignment between their values, health, wellbeing and everyday life.

It's also important to note that looking at ourselves and our lives honestly can be a challenging process. The journey is always worth it, but it can sometimes be difficult - in terms of the realities we confront, the emotions we feel and the actions we need to undertake. Growth happens in the discomfort, so this is something that we need to be prepared for, even though you will be carefully supported and care for along the way.
