Code of Ethics

I abide by the Global Code of Ethics for Coaches and Mentors, as set-out by the Association of Coaching. The below is an abridged summary. Click here for a pdf of the full version.


Agreement of Contract

  • I will always represent myself honestly to any client, regarding the nature & method of my work, the value I offer and the credentials I hold.

  • I will do my utmost to understand my clients’ expectations and reach clear agreement on how those will be met.

  • I will do my utmost to ensure that my clients are fully aware of my terms & conditions, and any agreed contract.

  • I will ensure that the duration of the contract is appropriate to achieve the client’s goals.

  • I will maintain the strictest level of boundaries at work and confidentiality with all client information, unless release of information is required by law.

  • I will make a clear agreement with clients about the necessary conditions under which confidentiality will need to be broken.

  • I will be aware of the potential for conflicts of interest of either a commercial or personal nature arising through the working relationship and deal with them quickly and effectively to ensure there is no detriment to the client.


Termination of Contract

  • I will respect the client's right to terminate the engagement at any point in the process, subject to the provisions of the coaching or mentoring service agreement.

  • I will encourage the client to stop the coaching engagement if I believe the client will be served better by another coach or form of professional help.

  • I understand that my professional responsibilities continue beyond the termination of any professional relationship. These include:

    • Maintenance of agreed confidentiality of all information relating to clients

    • Safe and secure maintenance of all related records and data in line with DPA2018 & GDPR

    • Avoidance of any exploitation of the former relationship, which could otherwise call into      question the professionalism or integrity of the member or the professional community

    • The provision of any follow-up support that has been agreed to

Professional Conduct

  • I will behave in a way that at all times reflects positively upon, and enhances the reputation of, the coaching profession.


Recognising Equality & Diversity

  • I will avoid knowingly discriminating on any grounds, will be mindful of the potential for unconscious bias, and will constantly seek to enhance my own awareness of possible areas of discrimination.

  • I will challenge in a supportive way any colleagues, employees, service providers, clients or participants who are perceived to be using discriminatory behaviour.

Statutory Obligations

  • I agree to stay up to date and comply with all statutory/legal requirements in the country where my work takes place and work within any organisational policies/procedures in the context in which the coaching takes place.

Excellent Practice

  • I will ensure I have the qualifications, skills and experience appropriate to meet the needs of the client and operate within the limits of my competence. I will refer the client to more suitably qualified professionals, if appropriate.

  • To support my learning and on-going professional development, I will engage in regular reflective supervision with a qualified superviser, alongside taking relevant and appropriate amounts of training.
